Water, water, everywhere…

Water is top-of-mind this week. Today’s site visit reveals that work is underway on the community well that will eventually serve us and our future neighbors. It’ll be several weeks before connections will be made to the house, but it’s good to see drilling is scheduled to commence this week. In the distance, our building site reveals the foundation work completed this past week—but not the moat that now surrounds it!

The rains have continued through the weekend and water is building up around the base of the foundation and we’re reminded of why there will be drain tile and a sump basket installed in conjunction with the cellar. Once the backfill, grading and gutters are completed, we fully expect water will be adequately channeled away from the house—but even so, we live in an area capable of heavy rains and spring snowmelts, so you can’t be overly prepared.

In the near-term, rain is in the forecast for another couple days; patience must prevail as it’s clear we’ll need several dry days before work resumes around the foundation.  In the meantime, we welcome Nancy’s sister and the Knapp family from Indiana for a couple days of biking, hiking, and a ‘house inspection’!
